Our eye lens cannot send clear images to retina due to which one cannot see properly and it effect once vision. The retina works by converting light that comes through lens into signals. Cataracts is very common in older people. By age 80, more than half of people in India have cataract or had cataract surgery. A cataract can occur in either or both eyes. It cannot spread from one eye to other.

How to prevent cataract

Cataract usually develop slowly. Newglasses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses or magnifying lenses can help at first. Wearing sunglasses and hat with a brim to block ultraviolet sunlight may help to delay cataracts.

How to remove cataract.

Surgery is only option for removing cataract. It involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens. Cataract most commonly performed surgery in the world and it is the most successfully performed surgery. There are various types of surgery.

  1. Extracapsular cataract extraction :- Also knowns as manual small incision cataract surgery. Here cloudy lens (cataracted lens) is removed by 5mm cut and if required stiches is applied. after this surgery you have to take  15 days -1 months of rest to heal it properly.
  2.  Phacoemulsification :- It is commonly performed surgery and also known as micro incision cataract surgery. Where the lens is dissolved inside the eye using ultrasound waves and intraocular lens is implanted in the eyes. After surgery you have to take 2-3 day of rest to heal it.
  3. Laser cataract surgery :- Recently new developed cataract surgery. Here the laser energy is used to cut the cataract in small pieces but one needs to use again phacoemulsification prop to suck out the the cataract from inside the eye. Laser only cut the lenses but it cannot remove the lenses inside the eyes and implant intraocular lenses. After surgery you have to take 24 hours of rest if want and then you can do your daily work like cooking, etc.

Conclusion.

There is no other option to remove cataract rather than surgery. If you are going to do surgery then you should choose phacoemulsification and laser cataract surgery as it take less time to heal your eyes.
